Franklin Park Land Use Plan

Participate in the Toledo 20/20 Land Use Plan for the Franklin Park Neighborhood. Neighborhood input is needed to help in updating the Land Use Plan for the City of Toledo. The Franklin Park Neighborhood is bounded by the Michigan state line, Secor Road, Central Avenue, and Sylvania Township.

Toledo neighbors push for 'dry' precinct

A group of neighbors in Toledo's Vistula Historic District are seeking to vote their precinct "dry" - a move aimed at two carryouts they say are magnets for crime and problems.

"We're tired of this," said Lonnie Homan, leader of the area Block Watch, gesturing to one of the carryouts in question.

After questioning, Cordray returns 10k from Wachovia rep

Cordray says he knows nothing about it and also says the 37% increase of business to Wachovia is not related to donation. Donation could be illegal because it was funneled through another person possibly done to skirt campaign finance limits. Kudos for the Dayton Daily News for asking questions and follow-up.

Flood plain update stirs fears

Sam Phillips remembers the flood of 1973, when a few inches of rocks protected his Point Place house from the crashing waves of Lake Erie.

The water threatened, but it never entered his Lakeside Avenue house. Others in Point Place, though, weren't as lucky.

Decisive military victory in Afghanistan is impossible and the Taliban may well be part of a long-term solution for the country, the senior British commander in Afghanistan was quoted as saying Sunday. The Sunday Times newspaper quoted Brig. Mark Carleton-Smith as saying that "we're not going to win this war."

Nate Miles expelled: plans on appealing

For those of you following the Nate Miles saga, it may not be over just yet.

According to his legal guardian Sean Patterson, Miles will appeal a UConn administrative board's decision Thursday to expel him.

Miles, who returned home Thursday to Toledo, Ohio, has five business days from the date of the ruling to file the appeal.

Kudos to Wells Fargo for buying Wachovia with no government help. Citigroup, which was hoping to stick it to the taxpayers, ends up losing the deal and looking stupid. Of course, if you work with the government things will go slow and probably be bad. Wells Fargo knows this which is why they decided to purchase Wachovia with their own money.

Unspent capital improvements money to balance city budget

In addition to ordering three layoffs and shuffling seven employees into new positions yesterday, the Finkbeiner administration said it wants to use unspent 2008 capital improvement money to help balance the potential $7 million sinkhole in Toledo's general operating budget.

CINCINNATI - Officials want to see more green roofs on building tops in Cincinnati.

The City Council on Wednesday became the first in Ohio with a plan to channel grants and loans to residents and businesses to replace tar and shingles with vegetation.

Lamar gets tax break for downtown move

Lamar Advertising Co. will move its regional sales and marketing office back to downtown Toledo after eight years on Matzinger Road, Mayor Carty Finkbeiner announced yesterday.

The company plans to move 21 employees to 116 South Erie St. and it will spend slightly more than $2 million to purchase and renovate the vacant building.

National City Bank and Fifth Third suffer losses on the stock market

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Shares of National City Corp (NCC.N) dropped more than half on Monday as investors wondered which regional bank might need a merger partner as the sector suffered what analysts called a deepening crisis of confidence.

The big Ohio bank slid $2, or 52 percent, at $1.70 on the New York Stock Exchange. The stock fell more than 25 percent on Friday.
