It is possible, that with McCain's numbers continuing to slide and his penchant for overreacting theatrics, he could try to replace her in a couple of weeks. I don't think it's likely (it would spell certain doom for his campaign), but his recent erratic behavior proves anything is possible.
People like Pink Slip
McCain does shoot from the hip, but with five weeks left I think he has to stick with Palin. He'd probably get a ton of negative feedback unless it could be passed off as Gov. Palin's idea (more time with family, etc.), and he probably would need to replace her with another female VP to attract Hillary's supporters.
I also think that McCain's reasons for picking Palin had more to do with countering Obama's newness factor. Here was a fresh face (and a beautiful one to boot) with a quirky Alaskan accent, and a pick so far removed from the Beltway that no one could ever accuse McCain of sucking up to the insiders.
Besides - the other component behind picking Palin was to molllify social conservatives, many of whom discussed skipping the election rather than voting for someone they see as a social liberal in McCain. Dumping Palin would risk alienating millions of folks for whom issues like abortion and gay marriage are deal breakers.
MCain will sink or swim with Palin, regardles of any grumblings by conservative pundits.

why the consensus is that Gov. Palin is beautiful. By whose standards? This comment is by no means a reflection on your taste in women but I keep hearing the comment that Gov. Palin is so attractive and I just don't see it.
Can we not take this as a "racial" statement?
I agree with you purhurt - she's attractive, as are many women & politicans, but she's no great beauty. She pales in comparison to Couric in beauty I think, or any number of commentators & reporters. I also don't get it. I think it's embarrassing that so many men will vote for McCain because they say Palin is hot (I hope they're joking).
