More Joe the Plumber! Yes!

I am having Joe the Plumber witdrawl, but the Tufts Daily got me back into the swing of things with a Joe the Plumber fix. He talks about the election, about Sarah Palin, about his comments on Fox, and his potential run against Marcy Kaptur.

Get your fix at:

Also on deck today, is a potential link between Elliot Spitzer, Ted Strickland and Joe the Plumber. Read what the Salem News has to say:

There is a legitimate point that Strickland promised to clean up government. If he does not come down on hard on such partisan activity, then some of his luster will be lost.

Could we ever get a Republican challenger to Kaptur that ISN'T a fucking putz for once? This Joe character is just more of the same stuff from the Republican loony bin.

What! I thought Ed Emery was the best the local GOP had to offer... it's only down hill from there.

Oh you are so wrong! I know Ed Emery! I've had the misfortune of dealing with Ed Emery! It only goes uphill from Ed Emery!

This Republican put Kaptur signs in his front yard so people would not confuse him with an Emery supporter! I'd vote for Mao before I voted for Ed Emery!

Some good Republicans have run against Marcy. Randy Whitman ran twice in the 1990s and was a good candidate and a good man. Unfortunately, there is no beating Marcy. She doesn't make critical mistakes and doesn't have a corrupt bone in her body. In a district that leans so heavily toward one party, that is the only avenue to victory and Marcy ain't opening it.

Joe is a frigging PLUMBER for chrissake! This just shows the desperation of the Republican party that they continue to tout him as if he's their best chance for survival. What a joke!

He's qualified as a voter to ask questions of candidates.

However as a candidate he is unqualified for office. As I said earlier he should run for a smaller office like Springfield School Board or something like that before he runs for Congress.

However on the flip side. The Repubs don't put anyone up because there are many in the area who won't vote for anyone without a D next to their name. Likewise a strong Repub candidate will find their name dragged through the mud by the Block bros. So with little chance of winning and a high chance of getting smeared it's hard to find a credible candidate.

If the bland wasn't such a one-sided attack rag I think the Repubs would be able to recruit semi-qualified candidates and at least we'd be able to debate some issues seriously.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but running for office is a popularity contest. For every person who is reasonably intelligent, well read and up to date on the current state of the US and Ohio, there are 99 voters who aren't. Just getting people to vote is a major undertaking, and it shouldn't be. Joe's chances of beating Marcy are better than most.

while I'm on this tirade, just look at the last presidential election. How many interviews discussed ways to fix the US economy or detailed a comprehensive plan to retreat from Iraq? None. Instead we got The One screaming about free health care for everyone, money is better when it's spread all around and safer streets due to sensible gun control. The public sucked it down faster than a corpulent eight year old cretin with a stolen can of Readi-Whip.

If you don't think popularoty/celebrity plays a role, think Jesse 'The Body" Ventura. He was a World Wrestling Federation(WWF) theatrical "wrestler" who successfully won a mayoral race without any prior experience. After a brief time in office (one term?) he ran for and won the governorship of Minnesota....campaigning on a "vote for me if you are tired of politics as usual" platform.

If I am not mistaken, he was more Libertarian than Republican...

Sure, why not. If the face of the future of the Republican party are the likes of Joe the Plumber and Sarah Palin, by all means, have at it.

Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, the presidential campaign fixture and John McCain advocate better known as Joe the Plumber, won’t have to open his own plumbing business just yet: he has signed a deal to write “Joe the Plumber: Fighting for the American Dream.” PearlGate Publishing, a small publisher in Austin, Tex., announced the book on its Web site, pearlgatepublishing.com. The book, which will be written with Thomas N. Tabback (whose novel, “Things Forgotten,” was also published by PearlGate), will address Mr. Wurzelbacher’s ideas about American values, and is scheduled for release on Dec. 1. In an interview with Fox News Mr. Wurzelbacher said he could have signed a deal with a larger publisher. “But they don’t need the help,” Mr. Wurzelbacher said. “They are already rich. So that’s spreading the wealth to me.”

Two weeks to write a book? Wow HistoryMike, you should have knocked out a few encyclopedias sets by now… of course most reasonable people care about things like facts, wing nuts do not.

What is wrong with a society that mourns the loss of a wanna be plumber from a failed election to the point of glee when that wanna be plumber's name appears in the media for their "fix"? Good God, Chris - I honestly thought you were smarter than that. This guy said he didnt' want to be made to look like a fool - said he didn't want attention, and then became a full blown media whore. So much so, that he really thinks people give a damn about what he thinks now that the election is over. What "Joe" fails to grasp, is most people didnt' give a damn what he had to say from day One. "Joe's" opinion & deep thoughts are about as valid as anybody's I guess. Chris would do as well getting his "fix" talking to his garbage man.

"Joe" could have signed with a bigger book publisher but didn't? I don't believe that for one minute. So he gets his book written - it does not mean it will sell. Even books by very popular authors only make a fraction per book (I heard about 35 cents a book) if it sold 100,000 copies or something like that). What do ya think the odds are of Joe's book selling even 500 or even 100 books? Anybody can get a book published through a private publisher if you have the money ( I think) - my ex daughter in law's uncle did it (I have the book here & it never sold well enough to warrent mass printing). Joe's a little full of himself. I suggest Chris find a more vaild role model.

This comment couldn't be more true. "...is most people didnt' give a damn what he had to say from day One."

This was my point from the beginning. The story wasn't him... it was Obama's answer. That's where the media and everyone got it wrong.
