The Sylvania merger "study" is getting play in our local media. I find it interesting that OneSylvania protested when the Sylvania Township trustees took a position on the merger in a 3-0, but now the Sylvania City Council President is the "pro merger" spokesperson? Isn't that a tad hypocritical? Are there any "Joe the Plumber" types in favor of a merger? Sure is looking more and more like the pro-merger folks are nothing more than a few politicians who are looking for someone new to tax. No thanks, I'm voting no!

This is nothing more than a power trip and land grab, perpetrated by His Corpulence, Mayor Craig Stough. No good will come of a merger in Sylvania.
Vote NO on 8 and 16.
... I was asked to do an interview with 13ABC for this report, but could not coordinate my schedule with the reporter's time line. Whenever I have been approached by the media on this though, I have always been careful to make sure I was not the only opponent speaking. I wanted a township resident's views heard as well, because this is not a Township vs. OneSylvania issue, this is a community issue.
Actually, at the August 18 (I think) meeting of Sylvania City Council, one councilman said that the city has a 'vested' interest in the merger. Six weeks later the township trustees were told by OneSylvania reps that we should stay out of it and not influence the discussion. I don't understand why they have a vested interested and we don't.
I watched the video. Good job Dee! Doc did an excellent job as well, and if he ever runs for office again, I'd support him.
During the video, the commercial failed to play. Instead, we got the background conversation between segments, including Jeff's comment about increased taxes benefiting the Township.

Ok, who was the councilman that commented about the vested interest? Who was the rep. from One Sylvania?
Doc put the whole thing in a nutshell - "I live in the township, I like things the way they are. What have you got to offer me? Why should I change?"
I believe Mark Luetke was the councilman who said the city had a vested interest (during the conversation where the city decided to delay annexing a part of the township in order to give OneSylvania time to file the merger commission petitions.)
At our Oct 1 public hearing, there were two people involved in OneSylvania who encouraged the trustees to not politicize the issue and to restrain ourselves from injecting our opinions. One was Gary Sommers, one of the city commissioners, but I can't remember right now who the other one was.
